Who we are

This website, mdcrackower.com (the “Site”), is the author website of M. D. Crackower. This policy explains what information the Site collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, email [email protected].

Information we collect

Information you give us. You may choose to share information with us when you subscribe to the newsletter or request a free chapter (your email address), leave a comment (your name, email address, optional website, and the comment itself), or contact us by email (whatever you include in your message).

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the Site’s hosting and security providers keep standard server logs, which can include your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, the time of your visit, and the site that referred you. This information is used to keep the Site running, secure, and reasonably fast.

Newsletter and free chapter

When you sign up for the newsletter or the free chapter, your email address is stored and processed by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), our email service provider, so we can send you what you asked for. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can leave the list at any time. We do not sell or rent our subscriber list.

Comments

When you leave a comment, we collect the information shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser details, to help detect spam. Comments are checked by the Akismet anti-spam service, whose privacy policy describes how it handles that data. Published comments, including your name, are visible to anyone reading the Site. If you tick the “save my details” box, a cookie remembers your name, email, and website for a year so you don’t have to re-enter them.

Cookies

The Site uses a small number of cookies: the optional comment-form cookie described above; temporary cookies set by our security and content-delivery provider (Cloudflare) to protect the Site from automated abuse; and, if you are a site administrator, login cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the Site will still work, though some conveniences may not.

Embedded content

Some posts embed content from other websites, such as YouTube videos. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website: that site may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with the embedded content according to its own privacy policy.

Links to other websites

The Site links to third-party websites, including online retailers such as Amazon where our books can be purchased. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites, and we encourage you to read their policies. Links to retailers are provided for your convenience; if we ever join an affiliate program, we will say so here.

How we use information

We use the information described above to publish and moderate comments, send the emails you have asked for, respond to your messages, keep the Site secure, understand in aggregate how the Site is used, and comply with legal obligations. Where data-protection law applies, we rely on your consent (for example, when you subscribe) and on our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Site — our web host, Cloudflare, Kit, and Akismet — each of which may process data only to provide its service; and where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of the Site and its readers.

How long we keep information

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Server logs are kept by our providers for a limited period in line with their own policies.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its use, and to receive a copy of it. If you have subscribed or left comments on the Site, you can ask us to send you an export of that data or to erase it (excluding data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons). To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of the message.

Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The Site is served over HTTPS and protected by our hosting and security providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Visitors from outside the United States

The Site is operated from the United States and its providers store data there. By using the Site you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
